Darlington County Release Records
A release is an event recorded against a booking or sentence. It is not proved merely because a name is absent from today's jail roster. W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center records local departures, but each departure has its own meaning. A person may post bond, receive a court order, finish a short local term, or leave after a charge ends. Another person may be moved to SCDC, another jail, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody. Only the first group has clearly returned to the community.
The correct record follows the custody path. The Darlington County Sheriff's Office holds local booking, movement, and release entries. The Clerk of Court holds the bond, sentence, and disposition that explain the legal basis. SCDC records a state prisoner's custody and later discharge. SCDPPPS records parole, probation, and other community supervision. Comparing these sources prevents a transfer from being mislabeled as a release.
Darlington County Release Types
Darlington County release entries need context from the linked court case. One charge can end while another hold remains. A prison commitment also means transfer, not freedom. The next source depends on the wording used in the local record.
| Release entry | Meaning | Where to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | The person left that booking while the case remains open. | Jail release entry and Darlington Public Index |
| Time served | The custodial part was credited or completed. | Sentencing order and jail entry |
| Dismissed or not guilty | The named charge ended, but another case or hold may control custody. | Every case disposition and jail hold entry |
| Parole or probation | The person is in the community while supervision continues. | SCDPPPS, SC VINE, and the controlling order |
| Transfer | The person left Darlington's building for another agency. | SCDC, another jail, USMS, BOP, or ICE |
Death can also end custody, but it must never be described as a conventional release. When a code is unclear, request the underlying movement record instead of guessing from a brief status label.
Inside Darlington Release Records
A focused request asks for existing fields instead of asking staff to create a new summary. Use the full name and date of birth when known. Add the arrest or booking number, approximate dates, and arresting agency. Some fields may not exist or may be redacted.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking identifier | Connects the release to the correct event and separates namesakes. |
| Booked and released date/time | Marks the recorded start and end of that custody event. |
| Release type or authority | May identify bond, time served, dismissal, court order, or transfer. |
| Facility and destination | Shows where custody ended and which agency received the person if recorded. |
| Charges and case numbers | Ties the jail event to its court docket and outcome. |
| Bond and holds | May show public bond terms and whether a detainer affected departure. |
| Booking photograph | Helps confirm identity when lawfully available. |
The short online window is a discovery aid, not a permanent archive. South Carolina law provides in-person access to certain documents identifying people confined during the preceding three months. That rule does not create an online three-month release list.
Request Darlington County Release Records
When the online entry is gone or lacks detail, use the sheriff's Freedom of Information Request form. Ask for the booking/release or movement record, recorded release time and authority, destination if present, case numbers, and booking photograph. Request electronic delivery and an itemized estimate when cost matters.
- Identify the person, date of birth if known, and booking or arrest number.
- Give an approximate booking and release or transfer interval.
- Name the exact existing records and fields sought.
- Send the request by the method on the current form.
- Compare the response with the court or receiving-agency record.
The Sheriff's Office is at 1621 Harry Byrd Highway, P.O. Box 783, Darlington, SC 29532. Its main lines are 843-398-4501 and 843-398-4502. The detention center number is 843-398-4220, and published office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Section 30-4-30(B) limits charges to reasonable actual search, retrieval, and redaction cost. A deposit may not exceed 25 percent of the anticipated price. For records 24 months old or newer, the statute generally sets ten business days for an availability decision and thirty calendar days for production after that decision. Older records use twenty business days and thirty-five calendar days, subject to deposits and agreed extensions.
Darlington Release Record Access
South Carolina's Freedom of Information Act starts with access to public-body records, subject to exemptions. Section 30-4-50 identifies categories of jail and law-enforcement information as public. Section 30-4-40 permits withholding or redaction when disclosure could interfere with enforcement, invade protected privacy, expose confidential sources or methods, or endanger someone.
Expungement is not release. Eligibility depends on the charge, result, history, waiting period, and statute. The Fourth Circuit Solicitor handles many applications, while some Magistrate or Municipal Court cases follow the court that disposed of them. A granted order can explain why public court or arrest data later disappears. It does not mean every independent record vanishes.
Why Darlington Bond Releases Matter
Bond is central to local release work because Darlington County reports that 95 to 98 percent of detention-center inmates are pretrial or awaiting court. Only 2 to 5 percent are serving 90 days or less or awaiting transfer. These figures describe the facility mix, not a count of people released. They show why a local search so often needs both the jail entry and a court file.
A bond release ends jail custody for that booking. It does not end the pending case. Confirm the actual exit through Bookings & Releases or the underlying jail record. Then read the General Sessions or summary-court record for the bond terms and future case events. Another active warrant or detainer may still prevent community release, even when bond has been posted in the Darlington case.
Note: A court order supplies legal authority, while the jail record documents the actual custody event.
Darlington Court Release Evidence
General Sessions provides a durable explanation after the short county release entry expires. The Darlington Clerk of Court receives, files, indexes, and houses criminal warrants, bond papers, and motions. It reports dispositions to SLED and works with the sheriff and SCDC. Search every case number tied to the booking. Review bond orders, charge outcomes, sentencing orders, jail credit, probation, amended sentences, and later revocation filings.
A docket is not a door-exit log. Dismissal of one charge can coexist with another hold. A time-served order may authorize release, yet the jail entry remains the source for the physical exit. A prison sentence means commitment or transfer rather than community release. The official Darlington Public Index outlasts the 24-hour page and helps explain the legal event.

Find Darlington County Released Inmates
Start with the system most likely to hold the last custody event. The county jail, SCDC, SCDPPPS, federal agencies, and courts answer different questions. Results should agree on identity and sequence before a status is treated as confirmed.
- Check Darlington's official Bookings & Releases page for a discharged entry in its advertised 24-hour window.
- If the person vanished, inspect the Public Index for a bond, dismissal, sentence, or transfer order.
- Request the county release or movement entry after the short window closes.
- For state prison, use SCDC's current search during incarceration and its Released Inmate Search after discharge.
- Check SCDPPPS or SC VINE when supervision may follow release.
- Switch to BOP or ICE tools when federal or immigration custody may apply.
The county's Bookings & Releases page describes searches by full name, date of birth, or arrest number, but its working grid was unavailable during research. The captured official screen shows the advertised path and its limits.

Darlington SCDC Release Search
SCDC operates two different tools. Its current Incarcerated Inmate Search covers people incarcerated in SCDC as of the prior midnight. It expressly excludes released offenders, county sentences, people solely on parole or probation, juveniles, and current SCDC fugitives. A missing former prisoner in that tool is expected.
For a former state prisoner, use the SCDC Released Inmate Search. It requires a release-date range and county, offers an optional sex-offender filter, displays ten results at a time, and permits export. Treat county as the committing county, not a promise about the physical exit point or future home.
| Field | Use |
|---|---|
| Release date from/to | Sets the historical discharge window. |
| County | Filters by likely committing county. |
| SCDC ID and identity fields | Separate people with similar names. |
| Release date and type | Distinguish RELEASED, SUPV RE-ENTRY, PROBATION, and other values. |
| Export | May add SID, detainer indicator, victim indicator, and most serious offense. |
The official SCDC Released Inmate Search image shows the date-range and county workflow. It covers state-prison releases, not people released only from Darlington jail.

Darlington SCDC Release History
South Carolina's split between current and historical corrections searches controls the state-prison workflow. A current SCDC detail may show a projected release date while the person remains confined. After actual discharge, that person falls outside the current tool's stated scope. The historical released search then becomes the correct route, using a date range and county rather than a direct name field.
This process should not be applied to every Darlington County released inmate. A pretrial detainee who posted bond and never entered SCDC belongs in the county jail and court records. A locally sentenced Prison Camp inmate may also require county confirmation. The SCDC released list answers only the state-prison part of the search, while a projected date remains a forecast rather than proof of discharge.
Darlington County Recent Releases
The county says its detention-center list includes people arrested or discharged within the previous 24 hours, along with current status, bail amount, arrest details, and visitation information. It identifies full name, date of birth, or arrest number as useful details. Yet the official interface did not expose a functioning county search or record grid during research. This is an advertised access channel, not a guarantee that a live feed is working.
No official rolling 72-hour county list was verified. For an event outside the first day, search the court index, use SCDC's date-range tool only if state prison applies, and request a county record for the needed interval. The sheriff did not publish a deletion schedule or minute-by-minute refresh promise. Phone the detention center when timing is urgent, then obtain the record.
Darlington Post-Release Supervision
Physical release may be followed by parole, probation, community supervision, or supervised reentry. SCDPPPS serves these distinct statuses. Its offender search accepts combinations of first name, last name, SID, county, and birth year, with results reflecting the prior day. A match can show that confinement ended while legal supervision continues. A missing result may mean supervision ended or the search fields did not match.
SC VINE covers county detention centers, SCDC, and SCDPPPS status information. Searches may use a name, date of birth, or offender number. Phone, email, SMS, and TTY alerts may be available. Registration must be renewed after an adult transfers between agencies. The Darlington supervision office is at 302 Russell Street, Darlington, SC 29532, and its office number is 843-393-4741. More details appear in the post-release supervision guide.
Darlington Federal Release Checks
W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center contracts with the U.S. Marshals Service to hold federal defendants awaiting federal court. A detainee who disappears from the Darlington roster may have moved to another contract jail or entered BOP custody. That is transport, not proof of community release.
Use a register number when available in the BOP Inmate Locator, or search by name and identifying filters. A former federal prisoner may show a release date, but “Released” or not in BOP custody does not rule out local, state, immigration, or supervision status. ICE's locator uses an A-number and country of birth or biographical details. Recent transfers can take time to appear.
The official BOP screen shows the federal search route used after a Darlington USMS handoff.

Darlington Release Lookup Sources
Choose the source by custody status. No single Darlington County released inmate search spans all local, state, court, supervision, federal, and immigration data.
| Situation | Best source | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Still in county jail | Current county Bookings & Releases | Live data can lag. |
| Recently discharged locally | County 24-hour route and release entry | The interface may fail and its window is short. |
| Former state prisoner | SCDC Released Inmate Search | It excludes county-only releases. |
| Community supervision | SCDPPPS and SC VINE | It is not every past release. |
| Legal reason for release | Darlington Public Index | The docket is not the door-exit time. |
| Federal or immigration case | BOP, federal docket, USMS, or ICE | A transfer may not be community release. |
Darlington County Release Facilities
The county jail and Prison Camp are separate operations, and SCDC is a separate system again. The current W. Glenn Campbell building opened in 1999 as a direct-supervision facility with 224 beds plus a 64-person holding area. The statewide jail directory separately lists the Prison Camp at 200 Camp Road. Their records should not be combined.
- W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center: local release, transfer, and USMS events begin with the county record.
- Darlington County Prison Camp / Prison Farm: confirm a local term with the county and court; an SCDC-designated term remains controlled by SCDC.
- South Carolina Department of Corrections: use its current tool during state prison and historical search after discharge.
Municipal holding cells in Darlington, Hartsville, Lamar, and Society Hill were not verified as separate public long-term jails. Confirm a short-term arrest with the responsible police or court. No SCDC prison, BOP prison, or dedicated ICE detention center was verified inside Darlington County.
Release confirmation from each facility should name both the event and its destination. For the detention center, ask whether the person left on bond, completed a local term, or transferred. For the Prison Camp, identify whether the sentence was local or administered through SCDC. For state custody, compare the SCDC identifier, committing county, release date, release type, and detainer indicator. This sequence keeps separate records tied to the same person without treating one agency's missing result as proof about every other agency.
